London, England June 24-27
The journey to get here was quite tiring, after 12 hours of travel we finally made it into our hotel. The most memorable early experience was trying to travel on the tube (mind the gap) with all seven and luggage. After a little nap we ventured out to see the sights and grab a pint. My first cask beer was a bit disappointing. I've actually had two cask beers and both tasted flat, despite the full head.
Becca and I have ventured out both nights on our own to hit more pubs on our own. The fist night, my goal was to find the Kings Arms, a local watering hole for me when I took a class in London 20 years ago. Becca finds it remarkable that not only can't I find the pub, I have no idea what area of the city I stayed (buffalo). We have been trying to hit different spots found on the Internet, Euston Tap and The George Inn to name a couple. I wouldn't say these were bad pubs, but they aren't our style. My favorite pub, Buckingham Arms came from a suggestions by a doorman. Local recommendation might be the way to go for the remainder of the trip.
The final day consisted of a double decker bus tour which was great on our first leg of the tour because of a great narrator. If we had another day, I'd like to visit the Tower of London. We chose to visit Churchill's War Room. I thought the tour was great, it added a lot that I can use when teaching WWII. After a the final leg of the double decker bus we ate a great meal and a couple pints at the Wellington, a theater district pub.
Relizing I forgot my credit card at the Buckingham Arms the day before, Becca and I made our way back there. Thankfully the friendly bartender we met lives there, because thy were officially closed. On our way back to the hotel we stopped off for the best pint of Guinness I've ever had.
