Belgium June 30- July 2
I'm not sure why, but our hotel here is 5 stars, quite beautiful! As we walk in, we are greeted by 3 lovely blonde Belgian women. I am eager to see what the beer seen truly is here. First, we walk around a bit and Central Plaza is absolutely beautiful! We stand in the center and try to take it all in, impossible to describe how amazing it is.
Taking a a tour of how they make chocolate and getting an opportunity to mold some of our own chocolate will be a story the kids, and Mema will certainly talk about. Around the plaza are lots of shops, MANY selling suits/tuxedos/formal wear. We were told to be Leary of the restaurants that has someone stand out front and attempt to lure you in to their "good" food. It seems as though there are streets and streets of these types of places. We found a restaurant known for mussels and they did not disappoint!
After the mussels and a couple beers, both Grandma's took the boys back to the hotel and Becca and I were on a mission to find the Delirium Bar. It's a 3-story bar that carries over 2,500 different beers (mostly Belgian). We found a seat at the bar (or favorite spot at any restaurant) on the main floor. The main floor only offers draft beer. I should have counted, but I'd guess they have 30+ on tap. We decided to do flights of beers. The flights were 25ml glasses, perfect for trying many. The beers Varied as much in taste as they did in color and ABV. We were served a 11% to start with. It (I'll add the name later) may have been one of my favorites. We got to 12 and decided that might be enough for the night. I am writing this the following morning, drinking a pot of coffee, with quite a headache. I'm glad we stopped at 12!
The homelessness here is worth noting. It is troubling to see refugee/ gypsy families on the streets, begging but wrapped up close together late at night.
